We are Matt and Steph Coder and we own Orchardside Farm. Neither of us are New Jersey natives, but we’ve lived in the garden state for the last 15+ years. We purchased this property in 2018 and officially started “farming” in 2020. Surprisingly, neither of us have a background in farming. We don’t come from a family of farmers and we didn’t know a whole lot about it when we first bought the property.
But the best way to learn how to do something is to just do it, and that’s exactly what we did. We’ve been learning as we go and enjoying the process!
From our first crop of pumpkins and squash, to our Christmas trees, running a farm has been both challenging and rewarding. We continue to experiment with different crops and techniques.
We are a family operated farm and we couldn’t do it without the help of our family. Our brother, Joel Hannold, and his wife Laura, run the farm with us and we are so grateful for them. Joel not only assists in the day to day running of the farm, but he is also the master mind behind our delicious baked goods and ice cream. He is a classically trained chef, with a passion for cooking and baking. All of his creations are a big hit with our customers.
